Best Template Folio #5

This template folio is for the first side of page five. It is the same length as the other folios: about 30 inches when opened all the way, but has more flaps AND the flaps are also larger in size. Each folio in the wedding album, although they look very similar are unique when folded up and decorated. As I mentioned in my previous post, the pages can be customized even further by adding or removing flaps, pockets and inserts.

Template For Folio 5

Folio 5 flaps closed
template is 30 inches long, flaps closed

If you are following my brag book from the beginning, you know that all of these custom designed pages are taken from my Halloween brag book (6.5 inch x 8.5 inch ) and will be used in an 8 inch x 8 inch wedding album. (see links below to Halloween pages.)

Are all the Brag Book pages looking alike to you?

Without the decorative paper, they all do look the same. As each page gets more personalized with inserts and tags they take on a personality of their own. I try to keep images themed to each page but in the case of the wedding album, I may not make the pages very different, The pocket of this template is made with a flourish from snapdragon snippets

Although I am using my images from Silhouette Design Store for these pages, there are many other places to get free designs. One that I use a lot for both fonts and designs is Creative Fabrica. my affiliate link if you decide to use, is here.

To see how I did this cutout pocket and do it yourself check out my post.

Template Folio 5 open all Flaps!

I truly think it is a beautiful thing to see a folio expand like this: from an 8 inch x 8 ince page to 30 inches long!

template Folio 5 with all flaps open

WOW! I love brag books!

Template accordion Page Side 2

For side 2, the template I am using has less bulk but delivers on space. Previously in my brag book, I used an accordion page but it was shorter , The accordion layout for page 5 side 2 is full sized.

Template accordion in position

template accordion page on page 5 side 2

All folded up, This layout still takes up less space as you can see in comparison to other pages underneath.

Template page top view

If you view from the top, this template unfolds like a fan and is made up of different sided pages.

template accordion page standing up

When stretched out full length, this page is still almost 30 inches long, and both sides can hold photos if left as is or can hold other inserts like slotted page with tags, pockets, waterfall inserts etc. Note that if you add inserts to the pages, the bulk does increase.

template accordion page laid out flat
now that is long!

There are 4 pages (8 if you count both sides) that are ideal for photos, The 2 shorter strips can be sure for a sentiment or journaling. I am thinking that photobooth strip may fit very nicely here.

As I move on to page 6, I am maynot follow my Halloween page 6 so keep following my blog to get your hands on my extra special interactive custom pages!

Flexible Brag Book Page 3 Side 1

This page 3 is starting to get interactive . For side 1 of page 3 the first page you see is one with a pocket.

Use the template pocket and customize

I used the template pocket file and welded the love birds to personalize it for a wedding album look and feel. The image of the love birds came from a wedding card I purchased on Silhouette Design Store : LOVE BIRDS LAYER CARD by Daniela Angelova.

The flexibility of using these files is that you can add one pocket, 2 pockets or just leave it empty for a large photo.

With the template pockets, you can weld any object or words to create a theme for your occasion. Below is one of the basic template pockets with the word “LOVE” and a heart welded on to it.

Turn the page and the second envelope is on the back of the easy to assemble wedding album brag book

So the first page has the pocket with the birds, it opens to the left and on the backside is another pocket with “LOVE” as seen above.

Attached to this page is another page that has a pull put accordion page.

Brag Book 101: Page 3

For this page, I wanted to be a bit more creative but not sure if this is a good idea…let me explain why: Paper. Yes. Paper… It takes way too much paper to mat all the pages and inserts. I am thinking I will not have enough to finish my 6 pages!

BUT… I still ended up making this 3rd page with lots of interactive parts such as pull out, flaps and there is a lot of space for photos.

Page 3

My page theme for page 3 is Witches, Bats, and Cats. Most are from the Silhouette Design store

Here is my layout

Side one

The first page is basic with a pocket. I am introducing gold cardstock so my patterned paper will be enough for the entire 6 pages I plan. The gold cardstock is from Dollar tree and comes in a pack with green, blue , red and silver.

There are pocket inserts for this side of the accordion pages and a large page for a photo under the accordion page.

Digital Images of files

Note that the pockets have not been changed to be pockets with a Halloween images attached but are plain basic generic pockets. To make the pockets themed, you need to weld the image of your choice to the pocket.

Side 2

There is a double tri shutter pull mechanism with a belly band holding it closed.

Close it up again, flip it open to show a double vertical flap on the right and a pocket on the left.

….. this opens to a horizontal flap

Working on the Brag book Cover

Scared yet?

I have to say that this step took a long time for me to begin as I was feeling out of my comfort zone and just not certain if this cover will be what I wanted.

Take it from me, now that I have done the cover…no need to freak out! Follow my instructions or look up video instructions…lots of information out there and have fun, make mistakes and move on!

Step One: Make your cover

I first needed to buy medium density chipboard but I was not willing to make a trip to Micheals or wait for Ebay or Amazon delivery…LOL…sooooo I and went looking to see what I could substitute. I found stacks of very thick photo mats in my garage and cut it down to size (9 in x 9in ) with my Exacto knife. So far so good.

Tip

As I make each piece of this brag book, I am creating the digital templates AKA the Digital SVG cutting files and PDF files so that the next book will be a breeze. If you decide to make your own book from scratch, consider doing the same.

Step two: A Decision to make.

Now the decision was to lay the pieces out on one sheet of paper and wrap front, back, and spine together or wrap separately.

1, Here is an example of a cover wrapped in one sheet of paper (video at about 32 minutes in) This video is also a great resource for making a brag book.

2, Here is a video with an example of the pieces wrapped separately and joined. This is from one of my favourite brag book creators Jen of Eve

I am going to use method # 2 for a few reasons, but the main reason is that I want to make bigger albums and to find paper large enough to do a one-sheet wrap is not easy.

Cover, Spine and Binding cut

Here are my front and back covers and spine cut from matting material I am using 9 x 9 as my size. I did not use my Silhouette to cut these but you can use your machine with a deep cutting blade. If you want to skip all the measuring and just want the SVG files to cut , then subscribe and the message me: I want your Brag Book cover package and I will send the files for the cover and spine and the files for the wrapping.

Brag Book Cover and spine
“chipboard ” pieces for the book cover and spine

Here are the front & back covers, and the spine wrapping cut out. I used 12 x 12 sheets to fit the 9 x 9 cover size with a 1/2 inch tab allowance for glueing. Dollar store Bristol board works well and all you will need is one sheet

Here are the front and back of the cover with the cardstock wrapping glued on. The spine cardstock is not attached to top and bottom of the spine yet and will be attached next.

Everything is covered up and this is the finished cover and spine

If you want the digital cut files for the cover, spine and binding , subscribe to my blog and send me a request.

Next post: the page binding: found out some interesting information!

Please subscribe for my blog, i would also love to know what you want to read about.

POP UP CARD: CAT

My popup card was made by the children when they went to deliver gifts of old blankets to the animal shelter.

This is an easy card to put together: if you are not using a cutting machine like Silhouette Cameo or Cricut, it will take a little bit longer to cut the pieces… but not a HUGE amount of time, as the pieces are big.

Here is what you need if you are going to make the card

  • 2 colour Card stock for the card
  • Scrap pink cardstock
  • Scrap red cardstock
  • 1 colour for cat head, and body
  • 1 colour cardstock for tag
  • pen
  • glue.

Cut out the pieces

  • Download the link to my template below and print out. You can use as is and cut the images out out use the image to cut your own colour choices.
  • the two card bases are cut from 2 different colours. I used pink on the outside and grey on the inside
  • Cut the body and head of the cat out of one colour cardstock
  • Cut the nose out of pink cardstock and Tongue out of red cardstock
  • cut the tag pieces out.
cat body and head, nose and mouth as well as the first inside card base

Glue it all

  • Use the smaller card base and glue the back of the cat with tail onto the top of the card, glue the paws down to the bottom of the card.( right close to the centre line where the card folds. Glue the middle of the cat on to the cat a little way down from the tail.
  • Next add the nose and mouth to the head of the cat.
  • glue to the head to the front of the cat .
  • Glue all to the body of the cat.
  • next write your message on the blank tag provided or print the tag with the quote of kindness to animals.
  • I used dimensional foam tape to attache two tags and then glued to front of card.
  • Glue the inner card with cat inside the larger outer card

Hope you card turns out fabulous!

Shadow Box Template

For all of you card makers/ crafters who love shadow box cards AKA tunnel cards, here is a free template for you to use: Your card in 10 min

Ok so 10 minutes for those of you who own a Silhouette Cameo or Cricut. For those of you who do not own a machine then this will take about 20 to 30 minutes

Shadow card with beach scene
Shadow Box: summer at the beach

The photo above is the free template to download ( see below) with free images I found on public domain welded on to the card.I used different colour cardstock so that I could show the layers better. You can use one colour or many colours. You could add cut out pieces, for instance to the palm tree, add green leaves etc.

The Template has the following pieces:

Front and Back pieces of Shadow box card. Dashed lines are fold lines.
The inside parts that “slot in” to the main frame of the card.

Extra Back piece that can have a background scene

How to use the template:

To use this template with Silhouette or Cricut,

  1. Download and open the file.
  2. Gather the images you want to use in your card from files you have or free images on Google. If they are PNG images you need to trace and make them Studio or SVG
  3. Make sure each section is ungrouped from the dashed lines (the fold lines)
  4. Place your image on card and use Weld (Silhouette) /Attach (Cricut) to attach the image to the card so that it is one piece. The template has a few extra pieces that can be used in a merge and will form hills or clouds.
  5. Group dashed lines to card before you move around
  6. Send to cut.

To Use Without a cutting machine

  1. Download the PDF file.
  2. Print the images of the Shadow box onto cardstock.
  3. Cut out the pieces including the inside rectangles of the pieces.
  4. Use scrapbook embellishments or photos printed on cardstock and cut out. The template has a few extra pieces that can be used as hills or clouds.
  5. Glue images to the inside of the frame ( the cutout section rectangle section)

How to Assemble

  1. The front and back of card glue together to form a box that is open on top and bottom.
  2. The inner pieces slide in to this open frame box in the order that you like and the tabs glue to the sides.
  3. Note that the tabs should all be glued to one side first and bent in the same direction.

Enjoy
