Evaluating files

Just got some cute animal and I was asked to evaluate the files. I love all of these cute critters and used cardstock as the medium to cut but I want to try cutting with HTV for baby onesies.

Chipmunk

This cute little chipmunk cut out of cardstock it very easy to cut and assemble with large pieces and few small pieces.

1. Material required: 4 different colors

  • One sheet of Medium Brown Cardstock,
  • Scrap of Dark Brown Cardstock,
  • Scrap of Pink  Cardstock
  • Scrap of black Cardstock

2. Complexity of file:

Number of pieces 8 

Once the colours were chosen, the cutting and assembling was very fast. The images were easy to cut, there were no small intricate pieces that were difficult to cut.

SVG file opened in Silhouette Studio as a grouped file

Needs to be ungrouped so that the individual colours can be cut. The head , face etc are separate, just layered on top of each other. Elements like eyes and nose are grouped and need to be ungrouped

Or

If SVG Separated files is used:

Note that the face is still grouped together and needs to be ungrouped

When the SVG is opened in Cricut Design Space

The file needs to be ungrouped the entire face is group so hit ungroup twice for all the pieces to be separated.

The ungrouped SVG needs the coloured pieces to be ungrouped once.

Crab

The little red crab is just so cute!  Cut out of Cardstock

1.  Material required: 5 different colors

  • One sheet of Red Cardstock,
  • Scrap of Dark Red Cardstock
  • Scrap of Medium Red Cardstock
  • Scrap of Black Cardstock,
  • Scrap of White Cardstock

2. Complexity of file:

Number of pieces 7

Super Easy cut out of Cardstock

  • One sheet of  yellow Cardstock,
  • One sheet of brown Cardstock
  • Scrap of Black Cardstock,

This cute angry pig is cut out of cardstock

1. Material required: 4 different colors

  • One sheet of dark pink Cardstock,
  • Scrap of light pink Cardstock,
  • Scrap of white Cardstock
  • Scrap of black Cardstock

2. Complexity of file: number of pieces 12

Once the colors were chosen, the cutting was fast. The assembly took a little bit of time to place the small pieces.

This Reindeer is cut out of cardstock

1. Material required: 8 different colors

  • One sheet of dark Brown Cardstock
  • One sheet of Medium Brown Cardstock,
  • One sheet of light Brown Cardstock
  • One sheet of dark Beige Cardstock
  • One sheet of tan Cardstock
  • Scrap of red Cardstock
  • Scrap of black Cardstock

2. Complexity of file: number of pieces  22

Once the colours were chosen, the cutting was fast for each piece but changing paper and mats added to the overall time.. The assembly took sometime with the amount of pieces to layer.

My Cut File

All of the images were a good size except the reindeer.  I feel with the multiple layers it should’ve been bigger and may even have had a few too many different colours for mats. I think that one may have had 10 mats. I will check again but it was a lot.
