CRAFTS FOR GRADE 4
LESSON 14
Science Experiment 1
Spreading Light – A Lesson in Unity
Objective:
To demonstrate how light spreads out and touches everything around it— just like love, unity, and the Word of God.
Materials Needed:
- One flashlight (or a small lamp)
- A few small objects (paper hearts, paper people cutouts, or building blocks)
- A dark space or a box with one open side
- White paper or foil for reflection (optional)
- Crayons or markers (for decorating cutouts)
Steps:
- Set the Scene:
Place the small paper hearts or people cutouts in a circle or scattered inside the box or on the table. - Shine the Light:
Turn off the room lights or shade the area. Turn on the flashlight and point it toward the center or upward so the light spreads across all the items. - Observe:
Notice how all the cutouts are touched by the same light, even though they are in different spots. Ask the children:- “Did the light skip anyone?”
- “How is this like God’s love for everyone?”
- “How can we share that light?”
- Reflect and Decorate:
Let the children draw or color their paper people/hearts, each one different to show uniqueness. They can write a word like kindness, unity, peace, or love on their piece and place it back under the light.
Discussion Prompt:
“Bahá’u’lláh says we are all one human family. Just like the light touched every heart, love and unity should reach every person. What can we do to make sure no one is left in the dark?”
Science Experiment 2
Mixing Colors – Unity in Diversity
To show how different colors can come together to make something beautiful— just like people from different backgrounds can live in unity.
Materials Needed:
- Clear cup or small bowl
- Water
- Food coloring (2 or 3 colors – red, blue, yellow work well)
- Spoon or dropper
Steps:
- Fill the cup about halfway with water.
- Add one drop of the first food color and stir gently. Watch how the color spreads.
- Add a second color—watch how it mixes and forms a new color.
- You can even try a third color, and see how beautiful the water becomes.
Explanation & Connection:
Just like the colors, we all look different or come from different places—but when we come together in love and unity, we can create something even more beautiful.
Simple Reflection Question:
“How are people like these colors? What happens when we live together in harmony?”
PAPER TRANSFORMATION
OUR CRAFT IS ABOUT TRANSFORMING PAPER INTO POP-UPS AND OTHER 3d OBJECTS.
Matthew Reinhart: These pop-up cards are actual transformers. Great to make and give to a fan.
Rob Ives is one of my favourite paper engineers, and he turns flat paper into working models and toys

Turn Milk into Plastic
This project takes one to two days and can be done after the lesson and shown in the next class
TEACHERS PAY TEACHERS
Like Professor Browne, we can also interview people we know. The “All about me” resources from Teachers Pay Teachers can help get you started – download and use it to interview someone.
FILL IN INFORMATION
I like the iPhone to fill in info about a person
DRAWING
Draw a picture of the Mansion of Bahjí. Here is a drawing of the corner windows of Bahá’u’lláh’s blessed room—Can you do a similar drawing? Do not depict any images related to war as we would like to focus on peace.
